Luisa Abram Dark Chocolate w/ Jambu Flower 70%

Cocoa Origin: Brazil
Producer Country: Brazil
Weight: 80 g

This bar isn’t just chocolate; it’s a wild ride through the heart of the Amazon. Meet Jambu, the electric flower that makes your mouth tingle and, with enough bites, actually go a little numb. This ingredient has been used in Amazonian cooking for centuries, and is still commonly found in tacacá, a soup served in a gourd and made from manioc root (tucupi), jambu and dried shrimp. Imagine biting into something that dances on your palate, first with a grassy, aloe-y, herbal taste, then a cooling wave that leaves your mouth tingling, like a botanical rollercoaster. It's one of those rare ingredients you'd never expect to find in a chocolate bar, but Luisa’s crafted this to preserve the biodiversity and cultural heritage of the Amazon—and to bring you something truly, unapologetically different. The first bite shocks your taste buds with umami and tingling; the second leaves you wanting more. If you thought you knew what chocolate could do, this bar is about to change your mind.

Luisa Abram Dark Chocolate w/ Jambu Flower 70%

Imagine trekking deep into the world’s largest rainforest, battling the heat and humidity and inherent dangers, with no modern technology or animal companions, in search of ancient cocoa trees. Pretty cool, huh? That's reason #1 why I love Luisa Abram's chocolate. The second reason? The incredible, unique flavours that come from these ultra-rare beans. Some of these beans haven’t been tasted for centuries, ever since they were first planted by Jesuit missionaries. It's like taking a taste of history. And it's not just about the chocolate; it's about respecting tradition, preserving biodiversity, and working closely indigenous communities. Plus, it's a family thing – Luisa, her parents and sister, and the over 850 families they partner with.

The Purus River originates in Peru's Ucayali region but flows predominantly through the Brazilian states of Acre and Amazonas. Spanning over 3000 kilometres, it traverses various protected biosphere reserves and parks, underscoring its ecological significance in the Amazon region. Renowned for its meandering path, the Purus River's actual length is more than double its straight-line distance from source to mouth. The forests along its banks are primarily harvested for rubber production and almost all the cacao in the region originates from wild-growing native varieties and are foraged by local indigenous communities.
