The commercial cocoa industry has historically been a major contributor to deforestation, water pollution, and the use of harmful pesticides. However, many bean-to-bar farmers and producers prioritize preserving ecosystems, avoiding any chemical use, and ensuring the long-term health of the land. While obtaining organic certifications as a small cocoa farmer can be challenging, and navigating organic standards as a consumer can be confusing, most of the products listed in this section have been certified by recognized organizations. However, in some cases, beans have been foraged by indigenous tribes from deep within untouched jungles. Although these beans may not have acquired legal or verified organic certification, rest assured they adhere to the highest standards of purity and sustainability.
