Luisa Abram Rio Cassiporé Wild Cocoa 70%

Cocoa Origin: Brazil
Producer Country: Brazil
Weight: 80 g

Sourced from the banks of the Cassiporé River in Cabo Orange National Park, the cacao grows wild in the Amazon Rainforest. Genetic testing confirmed it belongs to the rare Amelonados family. The journey to source these beans spanned over four years, as villagers initially hesitated to join Luisa's project. It took her and her family immersing themselves in the community, living alongside 13 families, and teaching them the art of fermenting the beans. Upon tasting, expect an array of flavours: from delightful toffee and butterscotch to hints of mint and dried fruit, all enveloped in a rich fudge and brownie-like texture. The finish offers a delightful layer of banana, dates, and cookie flavours, making it a truly complex and rewarding experience.

Luisa Abram Rio Cassiporé Wild Cocoa 70%

Imagine trekking deep into the world’s largest rainforest, battling the heat and humidity and inherent dangers, with no modern technology or animal companions, in search of ancient cocoa trees. Pretty cool, huh? That's reason #1 why I love Luisa Abram's chocolate. The second reason? The incredible, unique flavours that come from these ultra-rare beans. Some of these beans haven’t been tasted for centuries, ever since they were first planted by Jesuit missionaries. It's like taking a taste of history. And it's not just about the chocolate; it's about respecting tradition, preserving biodiversity, and working closely indigenous communities. Plus, it's a family thing – Luisa, her parents and sister, and the over 850 families they partner with.

Amapá, a state in northern Brazil near French Guiana, is home to the expansive Cabo Orange National Park, spanning over 1 million square acres. This park is unique as it sits on Brazil's coastline within the rainforest, unlike other inland areas, resulting in a distinct array of flora and fauna. Accessible by boat, the park offers a fascinating juxtaposition of coastal and jungle ecosystems, including mangroves, natural fields, marine forests, floodable areas, and more. Its rich biodiversity supports environmental education and scientific research, aligning with the park's primary objective of ecological preservation.
